Bea Card Kettlewood & Lyn (Carolyn) Smith Rest in Peace

7/20/2023

We had to say farewell to two sisters, Bea Card Kettlewood and Lyn (Carolyn) Smith.  Bea received our 50 year member certificate in 2023. Bea and Lyn both came to Alpha chapter by way of transfer from Kappa Chapter, when that chapter dissolved. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Carolyn Reim Smith, age 83, of New Milford and Avon by the Sea, entered into eternal rest on July 2, 2023. Carolyn was a lifetime New Milford resident. She graduated from Douglas College, and received her Master's Degree from Rutgers University. Lynn chose to work as a Guidance Counselor to serve the students of New Milford High School. As a beloved staff member, she made a difference in the lives of many students as they choose a path to their careers and was still communicating with former students today. Lynn was always willing to help others and, for her many contributions, was honored by the New Milford Education Foundation as Outstanding Educator March 2020.  Obituary >

A memorial service for Lyn Smith (formerly of Kappa) will be held on Wednesday august 9th.  It will take place at St. Catherine's mausoleum in Sea Girt at 12 noon. A celebration of life will follow at the Breakers in Spring Lake at 1 PM.  Please RSVP to [email protected]. if you plan to attend.  Thanks to Mimi Weis for the information.

Beatrice Card Kettlewood, 93, of Pompton Plains, passed away at home on May 10, 2023.

Born and raised in Pompton Plains, Bea was the daughter of the late James and Florence Card. She married James Kettlewood in 1952 and the couple remained in Pompton Plains. Bea earned her BS in Art Education from Kean University (Newark State College at the time), and her MS and Ed. D degrees from NYU.

Bea had a long career as an artist and art educator. From 1951 until 1984, she was an art teacher for the New Milford school system and served as the department chairman for 24 years. She also worked as a part-time instructor for William Paterson University and upon retirement, she continued to lecture art history and appreciation. Obituary >
