Your Photograph, ‘Old Barney’ has been accepted into the DKG Fine Arts Gallery. An announcement will be sent to your State President, Webmaster, and Newsletter Editor. Please inform your Chapter President and Arts & Humanities liaison (if you have one). There is also a press release attached for your use in your local newspaper. We anticipate the unveiling of the new DKG Fine Arts Gallery by mid-April. Your work will be displayed in the gallery for six months, after which it will be archived for two years. Another opportunity for showcasing your accepted work is at the DKG International 2024 convention or 2025 conference Expo. If you are interested in participating in the DKG in person Art Gallery 2024, at National Harbor, MD this summer, please complete the Google form that is currently available on the DKG website under the convention page. We encouraged you to submit additional works during the next submission period from August 15 – September 15, 2024.
We have had great interest in the Art Gallery and consider it to be an especially important venture for the Society. We had to say farewell to two sisters, Bea Card Kettlewood and Lyn (Carolyn) Smith. Bea received our 50 year member certificate in 2023. Bea and Lyn both came to Alpha chapter by way of transfer from Kappa Chapter, when that chapter dissolved. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Carolyn Reim Smith, age 83, of New Milford and Avon by the Sea, entered into eternal rest on July 2, 2023. Carolyn was a lifetime New Milford resident. She graduated from Douglas College, and received her Master's Degree from Rutgers University. Lynn chose to work as a Guidance Counselor to serve the students of New Milford High School. As a beloved staff member, she made a difference in the lives of many students as they choose a path to their careers and was still communicating with former students today. Lynn was always willing to help others and, for her many contributions, was honored by the New Milford Education Foundation as Outstanding Educator March 2020. Beatrice Card Kettlewood, 93, of Pompton Plains, passed away at home on May 10, 2023. Born and raised in Pompton Plains, Bea was the daughter of the late James and Florence Card. She married James Kettlewood in 1952 and the couple remained in Pompton Plains. Bea earned her BS in Art Education from Kean University (Newark State College at the time), and her MS and Ed. D degrees from NYU. Bea had a long career as an artist and art educator. From 1951 until 1984, she was an art teacher for the New Milford school system and served as the department chairman for 24 years. She also worked as a part-time instructor for William Paterson University and upon retirement, she continued to lecture art history and appreciation.
